Erin P.T. Canning:

Hey friend, welcome to another episode of this podcast. It's been a while. And the first thing I want you to know is that this podcast is not dead. It's been going through a metamorphosis, like I have been. When I first created Parents Who Write, it was, oh gosh, I think 2021. I had just come out of struggling with massive anxiety, depression, the undiagnosed ADHD that I had, and I had forgotten who I was beyond being a parent. And writing is how I found my way back to myself. I have loved inspiring parents to get back into writing, but I've grown in my author journey. When I first started this podcast, I had resumed my career as an editor, but I still hadn't given myself permission to write that shitty first draft. Fast forward X number of years later, and I have three books out now. I'm not forgetting the origins of this podcast. I'm not abandoning the message. The message has always been helping writers to pursue their author dreams. And that's not changing. But the name is. Because my journey has evolved. Of course, I'm always going to be a parent. That is always going to play a part in my struggles of making time to write and making sure that I do my job, prioritize getting my butt in this chair so that I can finish working on book four right now. But I really want to reach authors, reach writers, especially writers who have not yet owned their identity as authors. I want to help all of them as they continue to navigate the author journey, which is never ending, constantly evolving. No matter where you are at, there's always going to be more to learn. If you're earlier on in the process, it pays to learn about what's further down the road, so you're prepared. And if you're further down the road, then it helps for you to remember those earlier lessons to be like, Oh man, I forgot I should be doing that. Or, Oh, I didn't realize that I could be doing it that way. So I have been playing around with some different names for the podcast. I might be trying out a few. I don't really know. I'm gonna see how they land with you, how you feel about it. If you can let me know, that'd always be great. I love hearing from you. But the name that I am starting with right now, that I've been thinking about for several months, is Embracing the Fiction Author Journey. I've debated this. It still feels like a mouthful, and part of me worries that it's too long. But, I really wanted to include the word embracing at the beginning because of that idea that the journey is continuous, and we need to embrace it from the beginning. We need to embrace it while we're in it so that we maintain it, so that we keep going, so we don't lose our way. I'm also throwing in the word fiction in there, because fiction is my passion. I have edited several books that are non fiction, from self help to memoir to research, etc. But fiction is where my heart is. So yeah, we may have some guests on the show who aren't writing fiction because we still have phenomenal things to learn from those authors, but primarily I want to focus on what lights me up. I hope you can understand that. I'd love your feedback on the new name. You can reach me at podcast@erinptcanning.com, and let me know what you think. But the overall format of the show, I don't see changing. I hope that you find it helpful when I provide the short solo episodes where I offer writing tips, revision tips, things that I'm learning in the publishing industry, learning from my own lessons, fun times, you know. I'd rather you not make the mistakes that I make so I can spare you. And then I still see having guests come on the show because I, I don't know about you, which again, why I love to hear from you but I love being able to hear from other authors. I like hearing about their journey. I like hearing what got them started and what struggles did they hit along the way? What lessons did they learn? How is it that we can avoid the same pitfalls that they landed in? Right? So, I want very much for it to be a community based podcast. I will have some guest episodes coming up in the future. I am taking my time to get a feel for the new name, and you'll see some changes coming up with a new logo and all the fun things that have to be changed on the back end with hashtags and URLs and all that stuff. In the meantime, I would like to share that I have a whole new website now that is erinptcanning. com. I have revamped my blog. I will be releasing a blog article once a month. That is my goal right now. I'm not trying, I am a one woman show here. I produce these episodes. I have to edit them. I do have an audio person who helps me with the guest episodes who is amazing. And I love Max and Podcast Boutique for their help with that. But otherwise, you know, when it comes to getting this stuff posted and the social media that promotes it, that's all me. And that's in addition to being an editor and a coach and an author. So, please bear with me as I am figuring out my priorities for 2025, but I'm excited for the future of the show. It feels more in alignment with me as an author and me as an editor and book coach. I'm also really excited to announce that I am launching my coaching business this year. I already have clients signed up, so it's super exciting. I have a six month plan that helps teach authors how to untangle their jumbled ideas so they can finish and publish their stories with confidence. And I meet weekly with my clients. And what that means basically is that every question that pops up for them, I'm there to answer it. They don't have to go do the DIY route and figure out which responses to sort through and why would this work and why wouldn't this work? And why do these people recommend this, et cetera. I'm able to provide my experience, both as an author and being knowledgeable in the industry, and say, Hey, these are why these are these recommendations. And this is what I recommend for you. So they're not alone. They're not having to figure it all out, which was a big game changer for me too when I finally published in 2023. So here we are. Uh, exciting things are rolling out. If you want to learn more about the coaching program or my line edits or developmental edits, uh, manuscript evaluations and all that, I am happy to help. I love working with my clients. I love watching them grow into strong, knowledgeable authors. So you can find out more on erinptcanning. com. But I really hope that you're excited about these changes too, because I feel like as I am really owning my author identity, it's going to benefit you too. So, thank you so much for following the show, for being a part of it, for cheering me on. Your support, your encouragement, the emails that I get, the comments, the reviews, please, please, the reviews, um, they motivate me to keep this podcast going. Because I got to admit, especially with being a one woman show, it can get kind of lonely on this end. So hearing from you, it's everything. And I hope you'll stick around as we try out this new title, Embracing the Fiction Author Journey. That's it for now. I have some solo episodes coming up that I'm really excited to share with you. So stay tuned. And in the meantime, as always, keep writing. Take care.
